Secondary School Certificate

Secondary School Certificate, SSC is basically considered as a state board conducting secondary examinations. SSC is a public examination in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra in India.Also, Pakistan and Bangladesh have SSC. SSC public examination is taken after finishing 10 years of schooling. SSC examination is equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education, England (GSCE).

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education – Maharashtra SSC Board – is an autonomous body established under the “Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act”, 1965. Most important task of the board, among few others, is to conduct the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) and HSC (Higher Secondary School Certificate) examinations. The Board came into existence on January 1, 1966 to regulate certain matters pertaining to secondary education in the state of Maharashtra, as “Maharashtra State Secondary Education Boards”

Maharashtra SSC board is responsible for the formation and implementation of the rules and regulations in accordance to the guidelines set by the state as well as central boards. It is also in charge of formation, and implementation of the syllabus/curriculum of all the grades, textbooks, exam schedule and type. The board takes responsibility of creating textbooks, scoring of the tests and conducting examinations fairly and providing unbiased justice in the event of dispute. The Board conducts examination twice a year and the number of students appearing for the main examination is around 14,00,000 for HSC and 17,00,000 for SSC every year. The exams are usually held in the months of March and October every year. The results are given out usually in June and January respectively. The month of March marks the end of educational year and June marks beginning of the new educational year in the state of Maharashtra. There are currently 75,000 primary schools and 19,600 secondary schools in the state.
