Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana

KVPY means “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana”, which is a national fellowship program. This fellowship is granted to the selected students who are interested in pursuing research in basic Science. Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bangalore conducts an aptitude test annually for finding the best students across the country. You are eligible for this program if you are a student from class 11th to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Before applying and preparing for this program you should have a basic idea about what is KVPY, the eligibility for the KVPY SA SB SX stream and the cutoff. The KVPY is a national level scholarship exam for talented students who want to pursue higher education in basic science. According to the KVPY eligibility criteria, all students studying in Class 11, 12 and 1st year of UG courses in basic science are eligible for SA, SX and SB streams, respectively.

The "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.

This program aims to assist the students to realize their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is groomed for research and development in the country. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected KVPY Fellows up to the pre Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.
The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Government has entrusted the overall responsibility for organizing and running the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and set up a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) for overseeing its implementation. A core committee looks after both the day-to-day and academic aspects of the KVPY Program.

Exam Pattern for KVPY 2022

The KVPY Syllabus 2022 is mainly specified by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) for the SA stream, SB stream, and SX stream. KVPY 2022 syllabus incorporates topics covered in Classes 11 and 12 science subjects, which are Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology. In KVPY SA, there will be 80 questions. These are divided into parts 1 & 2 in this section. In Part 1, 60 questions of 1 mark each will be set and a negative marking of 0.25 marks will be employed for each incorrect answer.

In KVPY SA Part 2, 20 questions of 2 marks each will be allotted. However, a negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applied for every incorrect answer. In KVPY SB and SX exams, a total of 120 questions are given. Out of these, only 80 questions are to be answered. Moreover, 1 mark question will have a negative marking of 0.25 marks and 2 marks questions will have a negative marking of 0.5 marks.
